Geraldine was b. at Fabius, N.Y. and now, 1985, living in the house on Main St.,
Fabius, N.Y. where her father, Alfred, and her great-grandfather, Hiram lived before
her. This is where Hiram lived when he first came to Fabius and is the house that he
built in the mid 1880's.
Geraldine has been a great help to me and of the many who have supplied me
information for this documentation, she has contributed as much or more than I have
been able to obtain from many other sources.
Geraldine married Frank Streiff of LaFayette, N.Y. Frank worked for many yrs.
for the Park, Dept. of Onondaga Co. and previous to that was a farmer. He is the s.
of Frank and Kleopha(Clara)(Stuessi) Streiff. His father and mother both immigrated
from Switzerland to America.
Geraldine and Frank lived for many yrs. at LaFayette, N.Y. before the death of
her father. After the death of her father she moved to Fabius, N.Y. where they both
live to this day, 1985.

Justin was b. at the farm on Ridge Road, Fabius, N.Y. For a few years. in his
young manhood he worked in Syracuse, N.Y. During the depression of the 1930's when
work became scarce in the city he returned to the farm and helped his father run the
farm up until the time of his father's death in 1936. After
that he worked the farm
and helped mother in the care of his younger brothers and sisters. Except for a
few yrs., during World War II, he has since stayed on the farm. The farm was deeded
to him with the concurance of all of his brothers and sisters. He has done real well at
the farm having paid off a long standing mortgage that was left by his father. He has
taken down the old original barn and silo and built new barns and silos. He has also
added considerable acreage by puchasing properties that join onto the old original
farm. He has built additional houses on the farm where now live three of his sons, one
of his dau's. and several of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is still living
in the old farm house(1985) and running the farm with two of his sons, George and
Thomas. In talking with him recently he is attempting to turn the farm over to the
two sons that are helping him now run it. If he can accomplish this it would be a
great asset to them and the farm run properly should provide them and their families
with a good living for many yrs. to come.
Bernice Elizabeth Closson was b. at South Otselic, N.Y., the dau. of Oliver and

He joined the United States Army on Dec. 9, 1940 and was discharged Sept. 14, 1945.
He served in the United States at Fort Slocum, N.Y. for one month of basic
training, at Fort Ontario, N.Y for the remainder of basic training and then in the
1212 Service Unit, O.M.C. at Fort Ontario for appx. a year, then at Fort Dupont,
Delaware until Feb. 1942 in the 1231 St. Service Unit, Q.M.C. at which time he was
moved to the Port of Embarkation at North Charleston, S.C., from there to Camp
Harahan, La. where he was shipped out of Chalmet Slip. While on ship he was assigned

Nigeria where he was assigned to detached duty supervising two rail heads, one at

relieved of duty and spent time in the Hospital at the facility at Maduguri, Nigeria.
Upon release from the hospital he was assigned to Supply Sergeant duty at the base
there in charge of food supply and fuel storage area. At the time the point system
came out for discharging soldiers from the service he and his 1st Sergeant were the
only two at this facility eligable for discharge, however, both were held for the
convenience of the Government and were two of the last fourteen left to close the
base at the end of the European war. From there he was flown back to the states and
assigned to the detached enlisted mens list, at Coropilis, Pa. still being held for the
convenience of the government, for assignment to duty in Japan. Orders were finally
received and he was put on a train to the west coast for port of embarkation,
however, orders were changed in route and he was taken off the train at Palm
Springs, Ca. where he was assigned to duty under his former overseas commander
Capt. Campbell. Upon inquiring about discharge he was eventually transferred to
Camp Dix, where he received his Honorable Discharge from the 560th Army Air
Forces Base Unit. while in the service he attained the rank
of Sergeant.
