Note, per CHB; The data in the face of both of these records as well as the names of
the children were taken from the records of Robah Fidus Bumpas. Beyond that the
records shown have been taken from the census records of Clark Co., Al. and of
Montgomery Co., Tn.
The use of the same given names in both of these families and the lack of dates
make for confusion. The few war records available have been helpful but they too
lack much information which would be very useful.
Because of the above it is quite possible that this compiler
has confused the
children of these two families;
Per ASB/JRT; The spelling of Sarah's last name in her father's will is Tompkins.

John b. at Hanover Co., Va. and d. at Bumpass, Va. He lived at Bumpass, Va. John
was probably b. and d. near the "Independence Church", near Ashland, Hanover Co., Va.
where he was known as "Jack" Bumpass, a man of powerful build weighing 320 lbs.
He d. considerably past the meridian of life about 1838, his widow, Elizabeth, survived
him several yrs. (1838 does not agree with death date above). I believe that 1838 is a
more true death date as two of his children were b. after 1816.(LAB).

Per CHB; George Bump of North Bangor, N.Y. in a letter dated Sept. 16, 1940
says my grandfather Jesse Bump came from Hungary to England when he was five yrs. old
with his parents. He was a twin. The other ones name was Jason. When they came
from England over to America the Capt. on the boat adopted the one called Jason.
The 1830 census of Potsdam shows Jesse living next to Joseph(g.p 6.215). Note
also that he served in the same Co. at the battle of Plattsburg.

ASB/JRT; James Bumpas Cazort visited the home of his cousin Mollie McVey
certain times when negroe babies were born. Each time he paid $1000 for the child
who was kept by her owner John McVey, until she was five years old. It was on one
of these visits that he fell in love with his little cousin Piety. The exact moment he
said was one day he saw her bending over a hot iron pressing a dress. He said her
arms were so pretty and her face so rosy and sweet that he fell deeply in love with
her and although she was very young he asked for her hand at once.
The two negroe
girls grew to be old women; Aunt Sarah and Aunt Fannie, and were still living when
James Robert Cazort was born in 1849. Uncle Ben, Aunt Sarah's son came to Arkansas
with the Cazorts. He refused to leave when the war was over and he was free.
He lies buried at the feet of his master, a loyal loving servant and friend.
